How to work out a Grid Reference (eight-figure)

If you move the mouse pointer over the map, a box should appear top right. The letters and numbers in the box will show you the grid reference of the square the pointer is in. This is an 'eight-figure' grid reference.

If you want to find the grid reference for another part of Worcestershire, or another part of the country, press the - button to zoom out, then slide the map by holding down the mouse button (or using the arrows on the map) so that the area that you want is central, then use the + button to zoom back in, centralizing as you go. The lettering system for the 100 km squares will work on the UK mainland.

You can zoom in further than the initial map, down to street-names. Unfortunately, this does not help much in rural areas because field boundaries are not shown.
