Salt Marsh Flies at Upton Warren Pools

The Flash Pools of Upton Warren near Droitwich are naturally saline, originally formed by subsidence following underground salt extraction.

Melanum laterale (Diptera: Chlopidae) a common salt marsh species, all records at coastal sites listed by Ismay 1999. Identified using Ismay 1998.

Molophilus pleuralis (Diptera: Limoniidae). A very local small cranefly tolerant of quite brackish conditions in marshes & ditches – mainly near coast, rare inland – Alan E Stubbs (1986-1984).
