WBRC & WORCESTERSHIRE RECORDERS FIELD RECORDING DAYS 2003

Three recording days were organised in 2003:

29th May – British Camp Reservoir and neighbouring Malvern Hills. Many thanks to Severn Trent and Malvern Hills Conservators (especially David Whitehorne) for allowing us access.

3rd July – Habberley Valley and Wassell Wood. Many thanks to Wyre Forest District Council and the Woodland Trust for access.

7th August – Lower Sapey woods and dingles. Many thanks to owners Alan & Sue Everitt and Shane & Candy Connolly for access and kindly allowing us to park on Sapey Pritchard driveway.

All these sites have been of great interest and are very different habitats. Habberley Valley proved to be unexpectedly good for lichens and the Lower Sapey dingles with tufa deposits are rich in bryophytes. Habberley Valley and the Malvern Hills show signs of being important areas for mining bees and aculeate hymenoptera generally and will need much more study.

Many thanks to recorders for their records and special thanks to John Partridge for entering all the invertebrate records on to WBRC database and extracting and collating then for inclusion in Worcestershire Record. It’s a mammoth and tedious task! We have added many new records to the WBRC data-base including many new county records.

To reduce the size of some of these files to a manageable level, some of them will download as a tab-delimited text file. If this does not mean anything to you, do not worry - your computer should do the thinking. If you save one of these files, it can be opened in Excel which will give you all the sorting that the spreadsheet format can provide.
