RECORDS OF PROTECTED SPECIES

Many of the requests for information received by the WBRC relate to those species protected by law and which have to be taken into account before developments whether on new sites or in old buildings. It is therefore particularly important that the WBRC has a comprehensive set of accurate up-to-date records. There is a great need to fill the gaps in our knowledge. The enquiries are often from Ecological Consultants and WBRC makes a small charge for searching its data base and preparing a report. A good set of records for these species is also commercially important for the survival of the WBRC.

Records of the following are always needed:

GREAT-CRESTED NEWTS AND ALL OTHER SPECIES OF NEWTS

ALL SPECIES OF BATS (see notes on the mammal survey in this issue)

BADGERS (sightings, dead animals, setts and signsof recent activity).

Please send us records.
